The Devon Colony is a historic enclave founded in 1908 by Cincinnati’s William Cooper Procter(Procter & Gamble), Richmond Levering (Lever Brothers), Joseph Rawson Jr., and William Stanhope Rowe after they discovered the area on a hunting trip. The men purchased 1,000 acres of land, 90 feet above sea level, with Gardiners Bay to the north and the ocean to the south and built grand stucco houses and smaller residences as their summer homes. The colony also includes what is now the Devon Yacht Club, which was originally established as the Gardiners Bay Boat Club in 1908. We’ll tour this area with Lucy Sachs, a descendant and former resident of the Highlands. A collaborative event with the East Hampton Historical Society. Meet 9:30 AM at Fresh Pond Park (corner of Fresh Pond Road and Cross Highway), Amagansett. EH Town parking permit required. Free for EH Trails and Historical Society Members, $12 for Non-Members.
