SATURDAY, APRIL 22, 2023 - 10:00 AM - PAUMANOK PATH THRU NAPEAGUE PINES HIKE
Join us for what could be an eye-opening hike. What was until recently the beautiful Pitch Pine woods of Napeague is now being devastated by the Southern pine beetle. We will undoubtedly see large areas of felled pine trees. Still, this is nature. There will be some kind of succession; see the changes first hand. WE WILL CARPOOL. Meet 10:00 a.m. at the (only) bend on Napeague Meadow Road, near the LIPA substation, for a carpool back to the west end of the route. Distance: 4 miles; moderate pace; very flat. Saturday April 1, 10 AM. Chatfield’s Hole (3 miles)
Named after an early East Hampton settler, Chatfield’s Hole is a beautiful glacial kettle hole. To reach
the freshwater wetlands, we will follow the Northwest Path enjoying an oak forest sprinkled with pitch
pines and white pines. One of the town’s first open-space land acquisitions for preservation and
public use in 1976. One of the town’s first trails was cut and formally opened in 1989. Meet at 10
AM at the kiosk parking area on Route 114 at the intersection of Edward’s Hole Rd in East Hampton

Explore the fascinating and beautiful northern half of Indian Field County Park, on Montauk. We will hike out to Shagwong Point, and then hopefully make our way to the remote and beautiful Oyster Pond and travel south from there. There will be grand scenery. Meet 10:00 a.m. at Suffolk County’s Big Reed Pond Nature Trail parking lot, north end of East Lake Drive, Montauk. Distance: 5 to 6 miles. Bring snacks and liquids. Gerard Drive, Sunday March 26 at 10 AM. (3 Miles)
Enjoy the beauty and learn some history of Accabonac Harbor and Gardiner’s Bay as we walk along Gerard Drive. This hike will include a look at properties recently acquired through the Town’s Community Preservation Fund as well as a look at some of the original homes along the way. Meet 10 AM at the first causeway parking area on the left on Gerard Drive off Springs-Fireplace Road in Springs.
