Shadmoor State Park

Perhaps the most spectacular trail on the East End, this two miler climbs from the parking area off Route 27, into a wooded area of shadbush, black cherry, arrow wood, honeysuckle, and other woody shrubs and small trees leading to the bluffs overlooking the ocean.

Strange and intriguing formations, called hoodoos, reveal the effect of continual erosion caused by the effects of wind and water.

The path along the ocean, lined with wetland vegetation and flowering bushes, takes hikers to a beach where surfers congregate.

An alternative trail leads to the remains of two cement structures built during World War II as lookouts for German submarines.
